헷갈리는 특이한 동사 익히기 (infection, infestation) - 감염

무슨 병에 감염되었다고 할때 우리는 infection 이라는 단어를 많이 사용합니다.

하지만, 병이 아니고, 진드기(mite, tick) 나 이(lice), 기생충(parasite) 등에 감염되는 경우는 infestation 을 사용합니다.

한국말로는 똑같고, 영어단어는 비슷하지만 다른 헷갈리는 동사입니다.

 

원래 infest 라는 동사는 "우글거리다" 의 의미입니다. 이 동사에서 왔기 때문에 infestation 도 기생충이나 이 같은게 우글거리는 느낌을 연상하면 됩니다.
